Gmail Introduce a New feature

221051486_4aea268396 Gmail introduce a new feature that will warn you against sending emails on encyrpted channels. Gmail is one of the most extensively used free email services and Google has decided that it will setup some additional security measures to warn users of unencrypted connections. Phishing and email scams are not something new and have been around the corner since long however, Google’s new feature would warn users of unsecure connections thus reducing the chances of being scammed and phished.

This new Gmail security feature will bring however warn users of unencrypted communications between other providers since Gmail to Gmail communication is usually encrypted. The new feature is part of Google efforts to ramp up the security, which is also the heart of its Safer Email Transparency report, which analyses email security beyond Gmail servers.

The finding further elucidates how email is more secure today than what it was two years ago. The survey was based on the study of tampering with requests in Active Internet Regions. The second step involved unearthing DNS servers publishing bogus routing information to email servers on a lookout for Gmail. Google says that. Although such attacks are pretty rare, they are something to be worried about as the attacker will be able to edit the message before it is relayed.

Also the Gmail to Gmail communication are less worrisome but the ones with other providers can be vulnerable, this is the very reason Google is developing in product warning systems to alert the users of potential dangers. These warning systems will be baked into Gmail in within next two months and this is sure to be followed by several other features to minimise the security risks.

Google Maps Updated Now Navigate even When Offline

Screenshot_2015-11-12-09-33-13Google Maps for Android users has finally been updated to allow for offline navigation.

Finally, Google is bringing to option to navigate when offline. The latest version of Google Maps for Android now allows you to download maps and other data before going offline, allowing you to access it even if you don’t have an Internet connection. The great news is that this basically works with any area in the world. Amanda Bishop, Product Manager, Google Maps, said the following:

Now you can download an area of the world to your phone, and the next time you find there’s no connectivity—whether it’s a country road or an underground parking garage—Google Maps will continue to work seamlessly. Whereas before you could simply view an area of the map offline, now you can get turn-by-turn driving directions, search for specific destinations, and find useful information about places, like hours of operation, contact information or ratings.

If you want to make use of this new feature, you will need to download an area by searching for a city, county or country. You can then tap “Download” on the resulting place sheet, or by going to “Offline Areas” in the Google Maps menu and tapping on the “+” button.

After you will have downloaded the area, Google Maps will move into offline mode automatically when it recognizes you’re in a location with a poor signal or no connection at all. Once it detects you’re back online, it will fetch the the full version of Maps, bringing live traffic conditions for your current route. And before you ask the app will download areas to your device when you are on a Wi-Fi connection in order to prevent large data fees.

Although it didn’t provide an exact date, Google said the offline navigation is coming soon to iOS users, as well. The offline map will automatically update once every 15 days to stay current.

WhatsApp for Android Updated

8714699644_7f15ac81ae_bWhatsApp has recently released a very useful feature for iPhone users, called Starred Messages. This enables users to quickly access bookmarked messages including images, videos, or other content. And now it this feature is available to Android users, as well, but it hasn’t made its way on Google Play.

In order to get this feature on your Android smartphone, you will have to download the latest version of WhatsApp (v2.12.339) for Android from the official website. The new feature is yet to make its way to the app available on Google Play but we can expect the company to rollout the latest update to Google Play in the near future.

The new Starred Messages bookmarking feature can be used by tapping and holding a message which would then be saved in a separate new Starred Messages tab. Thus, once a message has been starred, you will be able to see the star icon next to the message. The new star icon will appear in the app’s toolbar, next to the delete and copy icons. If you want to remove the message from the starred list, you just simply tap it and hold it again, then select the crossed star icon that appears.

WhatsApp does have a search function, but when you really want to make sure a certain message doesn’t get lost or you want to get back to it, then that’s when this new feature really becomes useful. Thus, by starring a certain message, you will be able to easily find that particular message. It really makes you wonder why did it take them so long to release it, and even now, it’s still in beta.

Another recent feature that was released for iPhone users was to reply via the notification center. So once the one we’re talking about now will have made its way to all Android users, then perhaps the quick reply option will be next.
